History

History :

  • 1900 : during his holidays, Eugène Clemessy converted an old mill near Brunstatt, France into an electric power station that supplied a number of localities.
Anticipating the future of this source of power, he founded Clemessy 8 years later.
  • 1908 : the beginnings were modest: one store selling electrical accessories and three electricians working for the general public.
  • 1926 : the small company turned towards the industrial market by setting up a repair shop for electric motors. In 1937, it diversified to include the installation of telephones. Five years later, it started manufacturing distribution panels.
  • 1965 : the company ventured onto export markets (Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, Gabon, Pakistan, USSR). This period also marked the beginning of a long partnership with the CNES in French Guyana, where Clemessy set up in 1969 and took part in the construction of the Kourou space centre.
  • 1971 : the company continued to grow, with 1,850 employees and a revenue of €90 million. It was at this time that Clemessy started to include automatic control systems and preventive techniques in its offering. In 1975, the participation in the French nuclear programme consolidated the company's reputation. The Group had 2,200 employees, with a revenue of €137 million.
  • 1982 : the company joined the exclusive club of high-technology suppliers for the Ariane space rocket. As part of an international consortium, the company was tasked by the CNES with supplying the industrial IT command-control systems for the Ariane rocket's filler systems and the synchronised countdown sequence.
  • 1999 : the Clemessy family sold its shares to the EDF-COGEMA-SIEMENS consortium.
  • 2000 : GAME, specialised in maintenance engineering, joined the Clemessy group.
  • 2001 : Dalkia, a subsidiary of the Véolia group and a leading player on the power management market, became the main shareholder of the Clemessy group.
  • 2004 : in an effort to support the employment and skills development initiative, management decided to set up the "Trades Academy" (Institut Des Métiers). Every year, the Academy welcomes some 1,000 interns.
  • 2006 : the group continued its international development. Entities were created in Romania, Slovakia, China and Morocco.
  • 2007 : the group strengthened its skills base through external growth. The range of services is extended with new activities: robotic stations, mechanical assemblies, binding, dimensional checks and non-destructive checks.
  • 2008 : in December 2008, a new shareholder arrived. Véolia handed over the control of Clemessy SA's capital to Eiffage, Europe's eighth-largest operator in the construction and concessions sector.
